  • New Maserati GranCabrio spotted
  • Convertible version of the GranTurismo
  • 3.0-litre V6 expected to carry over
  • Up to 550hp possible
  • 760hp electric version expected
  • Reveal possible by the end of the year

The new Maserati GranCabrio has been spotted testing, and this new convertible sports car is expected to get the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 as the GranTurismo coupe.

This alternative to the BMW 8 Series and Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet will also be available as an all-electric model with as much as 760hp on tap.

New Maserati GranCabriolet design

The camouflage on this prototype Maserati GranCabrio is pretty thin, so you can get a good idea of what it’ll look like.

It’s based on the new Maserati GranTurismo Coupe, so you can see a lot of similarities to that car. The front grille and headlights are carried over, as is the big clamshell bonnet.

The side profile is where you notice the difference between this and the coupe. Maserati has gone with a folding fabric roof and you can see some muscular rear haunches as well.

Looking at the rear of the car, you can tell that this is the V6 model and not the electric Folgore by the quad tailpipes, and the aggressive-looking diffuser suggests that this is the high-performance Trofeo.

New Maserati GranCabrio engines

Engines for the new Maserati GranCabrio are expected to be shared with the GranTurismo.

You’ll be able to get a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 which puts out 490hp as standard, or 550hp in the Trofeo model.

The GranTurismo coupe can do 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds, or 3.5 seconds in the powerful Trofeo. Expect the cabrio to be a touch slower than this because it’s likely to be heavier.

You may also be able to get a Folgore all-electric version of the GranCabrio. In the GranTurismo it has three electric motors and up to 760hp, with a 0-60mph time of 2.7 seconds.

When can I buy a new Maserati GranCabrio?

The new Maserati GranCabrio is likely to be revealed after the GranTurismo coupe has gone on sale, possibly in the second half of 2023.

No prices have been announced for either the GranCabrio or the GranTurismo, however a figure of close to £150,000 seems likely.
