Those who loved the look of the new Mercedes E-Class but wanted an extra dose of practicality, you can now order the E-Class Estate. It starts from £57,930, and it’s packed full of the same technology as the saloon.
It’s both bigger and more spacious than the outgoing car, and a plug-in hybrid model is available with up to 69 miles of all-electric range.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate price and specs
The new Mercedes E-Class Estate is available to order now, and deliveries are expected to start in early 2024. There are four trim levels available: AMG Line, AMG Line Advanced, AMG Line Premium and AMG Line Premium Plus.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate AMG Line: £57,930
Sitting at the entry point to the E-Class Estate range is the AMG Line, and you get plenty of kit as standard. All models get 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a reversing camera and heated front seats.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate AMG Line Advanced: £61,175
There’s not much of a jump in price to the AMG Line Advanced, and you get a good amount of extra equipment for your cash. Stepping up gets you a 360-degree camera, memory seats, augmented reality for the sat nav system and 19-inch alloy wheels.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate AMG Line Premium: £64,055
If you want Mercedes’ new Superscreen infotainment system, you’ll want to step up to the AMG Line Premium. This gets you an additional screen in front of the passenger, as well as a premium sound system with 21 speakers and active ambient lighting.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate AMG Line Premium Plus: £69,740
Things start to get pricey when you step up to the AMG Line Premium Plus. If you fancy treating yourself then it gets you 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, four zone climate control and an illuminated front grille.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate design
The new Mercedes E-Class saloon gets a completely new design compared to its predecessor, and the estate gets the same front-end treatment.
You get an all-new, much wider grille than before with a thick black border, and you can have it light up if you really want to show off. The double-bubble headlight design is also carried over from the saloon, and they look similar to the units found on the Mercedes EQE.
Alloy wheels start at 17-inches and rise up to 21-inches, just like the saloon, and you have the same pop-out door handles. It’s the roofline which really sets this estate apart. It has a much more sloped rear end than the outgoing car, giving it a more sleek appearance.
The rear lights have a similar shape to those found on the E-Class saloon, with the same three-pointed star LED design. You also have a chrome strip across the tailgate and some black trim around the lower bumper highlighting the large chrome exhaust surrounds.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate interior and infotainment
Up front in the new Mercedes E-Class Estate it’s exactly the same as the saloon. The dashboard is dominated by a huge central touchscreen, with an optional passenger display making up the “Superscreen” system.
Like with the saloon, this passenger screen can be used to play games like Angry Birds, as well as stream movies. To avoid this being a distraction, the screen will dim if the eye-tracking software senses that the driver is looking across at it.
Being an estate car, it’s in the back where the differences come over the saloon. This new car is 28mm longer than the outgoing E-Class Estate, meaning you get more rear legroom. You have a 615-litre boot, 70-litres more than you get in the Audi A6 Avant. This drops to 460-litres if you go for the plug-in hybrid model though thanks to all the electrical gubbins under the floor.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate engines and driving
There are three engine options available for the new Mercedes E-Class Estate. You can have a 2.0-litre petrol with 204hp or a 2.0-litre diesel with 197hp. Both these cars get rear-wheel-drive and a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
There’s also a plug-in hybrid version. It uses the 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor to make a combined 313hp. You can also do up to 70 miles on electric power alone. This model also gets rear-wheel-drive and a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
The estate version of the E-Class gets air suspension of the rear as standard for a smooth ride, with the option of full air suspension for maximum comfort.
