The new Mini Countryman is here, and it’s available with electric power for the first time. It has up to 287 miles of range, and petrol engines are still offered.

This alternative to cars such as the BMW iX1 and Volvo XC40 will hit UK roads in February next year, with prices starting from £28,500.

New Mini Countryman design

The new Mini Countryman may look like an evolution of the old car, however it is an all-new model. Look carefully and you’ll see plenty of changes which make this version look more modern.

The LED headlights have a slightly more square shape than the outgoing car’s, and the overall front-end design is more rounded as well. There’s a massive blanked-off grille up front, and some vents in the lower bumper.

The side profile is almost as boxy as the current car. There are a range of new alloy wheel designs, and the flush-fitting door handles look lifted from various BMW models.

The rear end has a more simplistic design than the current Countryman. There’s some rugged-looking trim on the lower bumper, a smooth tailgate and some Union Jack-style tail lights.

New Mini Countryman interior and infotainment

The cabin of the new Mini Countryman has been given a more comprehensive revamp than the exterior. It has a much more modern and minimalistic appearance, with plenty of funky design touches.

The centrepiece here is the 9.0-inch circular infotainment system. It combines all your driving information, including speed, as well as the climate controls. There are loads of cool graphics to choose from, including a retro-look dial setup.

The dashboard is also covered in a unique-looking fabric, and being a Mini you can bet that there will be plenty of customisation options. The lower dash houses a panel of controls for your gear selector, as well as driving modes and engine start toggle.

New Mini Countryman engines and motors

This will be the first Mini Countryman which will be available as a pure EV, and there’s a choice of single or dual-motor versions. The single-motor car gets front-wheel-drive and 204hp, while the dual-motor sends 313hp to all four wheels.

Both models get a 64.7kWh battery, and the single motor car has up to 287 miles of range. The more powerful version will do 269 miles on a charge.

There are also three petrol-engined models available. Mini hasn’t confirmed engine sizes, however there will be a model with 170hp, one with 218hp and all-wheel-drive and a sporty JCW with 300hp and all-wheel-drive.
