Ora has revealed a new electric saloon for the UK market to provide an alternative to cars such as the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 3.

It hasn’t been given a name in the UK just yet, however it’s called the Lightning Cat in China where it’s been on sale since 2022. This new car goes on sale early next year.

New Ora electric saloon design

You’re not going to mistake this new Ora saloon for any other EV on the market, it has a distinctive design which takes a lot of design details from the Ora Funky Cat.

You have some small circular headlights up front, and the bumper has a smooth design with no fake vents in sight.  There is a honeycomb pattern on the lower bumper, along with some air intakes to cool the batteries.

If you were to spot this car from a distance, you may notice that the side profile bears a resemblance to the Porsche Panamera. It has a similar sloping roofline to that car, and the flush-fitting door handles look pretty sleek as well.

The rear end is just as rounded as the front, with some circular taillights adding to the slightly retro vibe. There’s plenty of chrome as well, and the word Ora is spelled out across the tailgate.

New Ora electric saloon motors and batteries

You will be able to get this new electric car with either two-wheel-drive or with dual-motors and all-wheel-drive. The latter has 400hp and 680Nm of torque, and it’ll do 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. That’s two tenths of a second slower than the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, however it is slightly quicker than the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

Exact battery specs haven’t been confirmed just yet, however this new saloon will be able to do more than 300 miles on a charge.

While UK specs are yet to be announced, this car has been on sale in China since 2022. In that market it has an 83kWh battery with 373 miles of range. It wouldn’t be a shock then if the car has similar specs in the UK.

New Ora electric saloon interior and infotainment

The interior of Ora’s new saloon car has a more upmarket and premium look than the Funky Cat’s cabin. There’s plenty of silver trim around the place, along with a lot of synthetic leather.

The tall centre console tunnel makes it look like a pretty sporty place to be, and sat atop the dash is a large touchscreen infotainment system. Below this is you’ll find some dials for the climate controls, as well as some handy shortcut buttons.

When will the new Ora electric saloon go on sale?

The new Ora electric saloon is available to pre-order now, and more details will be revealed over the coming months. Sales officially start at the start of 2024.

Pricing hasn’t been announced just yet, however it’ll be a fair bit more expensive than the smaller Funky Cat. Expect a price tag of around £40,000.
