This is the new Porsche Panamera and, while it may look awfully similar to the car it replaces, it’s loaded with new technology and a revised engine range.
This alternative to the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and Audi A7 also has a new suspension setup for added comfort. The new Panamera is available to order now with prices starting from £79,500.
New Porsche Panamera design
You’ll have to look pretty hard to spot the differences between the new Porsche Panamera and the car it replaces because, in true Porsche fashion, it’s a case of evolution rather than revolution in the looks department.
Starting up front, you get some slightly slimmed-down headlights with a new LED pattern, a bit like the one you get on the new Porsche Cayenne. The bumper is also new, with some larger and more square-looking vents to help make the car look more aggressive.
Looking down the sides, this new Panamera retains the same sleek silhouette as the outgoing car. There are a few new colour options available, including this fetching bronze, and you can even opt for some sporty centre-locking alloy wheels. Changes to the rear are equally subtle. The full-width light bar has been tweaked to make it look more like the one you get on the Porsche Taycan, and you get a slightly revised lower bumper as well. Beyond this, it’s pretty much business as usual for the Panamera.
New Porsche Panamera engines and performance
It’s under the skin where the majority of work has taken place on the new Panamera, with improvements made to power and performance.
Let’s take a look at the new Turbo E-Hybrid first. It uses a revised version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine from the outgoing car, paired with an all-new 190hp electric motor to produce a combined 680hp and 930Nm of torque.
That’s 50hp more than the Audi RS7 Sportback, and it’s 40hp more than the Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Door 63 S E-Performance. As a result, the Panamera will do 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, exactly the same as the Mercedes and 0.2 of a second faster than the RS7.

When you’re not hooning down a runway, the new Turbo E-Hybrid can also act as a sensible electric car thanks to a new 25.9kWh battery. This allows you to go for up to 56 miles in electric power alone, perfect for wafting around town.
In addition to the Turbo E-Hybrid, there’s also the new standard Panamera and Panamera 4. They both use the same 2.9-litre V6 engine as the outgoing car, however it’s been tweaked for added power and performance. It now puts out 353hp, a 23hp increase over its predecessor.
New Porsche Panamera suspension and chassis
This wouldn’t be a Porsche if the handling wasn’t on point, and the new Panamera gets plenty of clever suspension upgrades to make sure it puts a grin on your face when the road gets twisty.
You get adaptive dampers as standard which can adjust on the fly to make sure the car stays as flat through the bends, while also making sure it’s as comfortable as possible over bumps. Porsche’s new Active Ride system is also available as an option on the Turbo models.

This builds on the standard system by having a hydraulic pump on each shock absorber which can stiffen up or slacken off the suspension in a split second to react to imperfections in the road, helping get the best blend of comfort and handling.
If you’re in the right mode, this suspension setup can even overcompensate for body roll through the corners so the car leans into the bends like a motorbike. It can also push the nose of the car down under acceleration to help with grip, and it raises up when stationary to make it easier to get in and out.
New Porsche Panamera interior and infotainment
The new Porsche Panamera’s cabin was revealed a few weeks ago, and it’s packing plenty of new technology with inspiration from the new Cayenne SUV. You get a cleaner dashboard layout, with controls like the gear selector moved up to the steering column to free up space for storage.
The overall design is similar to before in that everything looks very square and neat across the dashboard. What’s new for this generation is the optional 10.9-inch screen in front of the passenger. They can use it to stream videos, operate the infotainment or monitor the car’s performance.
You may also be pleased to see physical climate control buttons still take pride of place in the centre console, which should make them easier to use on the move. Being a Porsche, you can expect the build quality to be up there with all the top luxury brands.
How much is the new Porsche Panamera?
The new Porsche Panamera is available to order now, with first deliveries starting in March next year. The starting price for a rear-wheel-drive V6 model is £79,500, and for this you get the standard adaptive suspension setup, LED matrix headlights, parking assist and wireless phone charging.
If you want the all-wheel-drive Panamera 4 V6, you’ll have to part with £82,500. The range-topping Turbo E-Hybrid will set you back £141,400. That’s around £5000 more than an Audi RS7 Sportback, but it’s almost a whopping £40,000 less than a Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Door 63 S E-Performance.
